Excerpt from In a Sea of Dreams

“In this strange and directionless space the unearthly song was my only beacon, a melodic signal seemingly beamed from an immense, invisible source, a source all around me yet nowhere at all.  And toward it I was drawn, exhilarated and expectant, but fearful and apprehensive.  There was something out there of overwhelming size, power, and portent, but I didn’t know if I was merely moving toward it or being swallowed by it.  Then shrouded by blue mist like a ghost ship becalmed, the great whale materialized with almost reluctant slowness.  Every foot of my advance unveiled a bit more of the enormous creature from its cover of foggy light.  Its size was truly disorienting, for it appeared to stretch endlessly into the distance.”
