The must-have accessory for the Nikonos RS!!

Innovative new product from Germany available through RST converts the RS 50mm macro to a true 100mm macro!

Can be used with the Subeye Reflex!

While many respect the technical accomplishment the Nikonos RS represents, the limited lens selection always made this camera somewhat lacking in appeal and versatility. Most frustrating for RS owners has been the absence of a macro lens in the 100mm range. Well, now there is an answer for all RS owners, and a great answer it is.

We are pleased to announce that we are the exclusive U.S. representatives for a precision German designed and built 2x teleconverter for the Nikonos RS, which will convert the optically excellent but limited utility 50mm macro lens into a true 100mm macro lens. Not only that, but the maximum magnification is twice life size! That's right, 2:1 magnification is possible, and you have the advantage of longer camera to subject working distance of a 100mm lens. So if you have been stymied in your attempts to get those dramatic, frame filling shots of tiny rare marine creatures with the RS 50mm macro, this teleconverter is the answer.

Precision optics

The optical quality is superb. The converter itself is very small and light, though it utilizes a total of 7 multi-coated lenses in 5 groups. It retains all the auto focus, automatic aperture functions and matrix metering features of the standard lenses. There are only two disadvantages that we can find: The maximum aperture is reduced from f2.8 to f5.6. As one is generally shooting at apertures considerably smaller than f5.6 anyhow, this will have no effect on your photographic results. What it will do is darken the viewfinder image somewhat. However, the RS possesses an exceptionally bright viewfinder, so this is not a significant deficiency. Secondly, the auto focus is somewhat slower with the 2x in place, but this would be expected of any 100mm lens vs. a 50mm lens, and not unique to this teleconverter.

Easy operation

The teleconverter itself couldn't be easier to use. Simply mount the teleconverter on the 50mm macro lens, then mount the teleconverter to the RS body, not unlike one would attach an extension tube on a lens for a Nikonos V. There are no switches or controls of any kind, other than the bayonet lock release button.

Much less than the cost of a new lens (if there was one!)

One would not expect a German crafted, technically precise and optically flawless product to be cheap, and this isn't. You wouldn't want it if it was! But think of this: for the price, you essentially end up with an entirely new RS lens, at what is still a fraction of the price of a primary RS lens. In addition, by packing just this one small accessory, measuring only 3.5" in diameter, 2" in length, and weighing about a pound, you have an entire new lens for your system without the added bulk and weight of another lens. The cost of this teleconverter is based on the exchange rate of the dollar to the German mark. Presently with air shipping and import duty included, we are offering this lens for $1300. Again, this is less than a new RS lens, yet the result is you end up with not only a new lens, but by far the best macro lens option available for the RS.
