Look, you and I know that if you buy either or both of our books, you just want to look at the spectacular pictures. Who would blame you? Millions of people around the world have done exactly the same, so there is no shame! But your friends don't know that. They might well assume, if seeing Within a Rainbowed Sea and In a Sea of Dreams gracing your coffee table, that you bought them for the evocative, insightful text, for the images painted so eloquently in words, capturing the essence of the undersea experience with such crystalline emotional clarity. Heck, they might actually assume you can read! Think of the sudden respect you would gain in their eyes. Soon they'll be asking your opinions on politics, religion, philosophy or economics, instead of baseball scores and whether it will be Mark, Sammy or Jr. to break Roger's record. (Guys really into sports are pretty much on a first name basis with the biggest stars, dead or alive.) Mensa applications will begin arriving by courier and, if past history is any indication, you'll probably get a promotion at work, that prime corner office with the full length windows, and be assigned that cute little secretary who has, up until now, yet to look at you twice. |
