Papua New Guinea
A special place - and not just for the diving.

PNG holds a special place in our hearts not only because it offers some of the very finest, most remote and exciting coral reef diving in the world, but we got our start as Rainbowed Sea Tours operating dive trips years ago to this special destination.

It was during our expedition in 1989, after all, that Birgitte and I had our memorable New Guinea wedding in

full-on native ceremony, replete with painted, semi-naked bride, jungle warriors and a speared pig. We were the first Westerners ever married in the traditional manner on the entire island. This is surely a claim none of our competitors can make!

It was an extraordinary event and we were deeply touched by the enthusiasm, warmth and generosity of these people. While we clearly travel to Papua New Guinea to dive, the amazing cultures found in this unique country are a significant reason why PNG is one of the most sought after dive destinations in the world. During the years we have run trips to PNG, we have personally amassed more first-hand diving experience in PNG waters than any other tour operator in the business, bar none. We can offer you the benefits of that experience with our 2002  program to Papua New Guinea's premier marine life showcase: Milne Bay.

The best dive spots - year 'round!

One of the most exciting aspects of diving in PNG is the sheer vastness of the ocean spanned by her hundreds of islands and atolls. This characteristic gives us the option of targeting certain regions during different seasons of the year, while still being assured of optimum diving conditions.

Each different region boasts its own specialties, and for 2002 we offer our guests one of the ultimate

"critter photography" spots in the world, Milne Bay.

Milne Bay

As for Milne Bay, what more can I say about an area that has been featured in National Geographic, boasts an endless variety of weird and unusual creatures, and has been sought after among diving aficionados as one of the true Meccas of marine life photographic opportunity. Milne Bay offers much more than just macro photography.

On our 1997 program, much to our delight and surprise, we discovered virgin reefs abounding with dramatic pelagic

action.  Gray reef sharks were common, and the breathtaking silvertip sharks were numerous. One memorable reef was so thick with predatory fish such as sharks, tuna, and jacks, we named it Lottateeth Reef. We knew the instant we hit the water that this reef had never been dived on before. WWII plane wrecks, dazzling fish life and stunning coral forests round out the package of underwater spectacles to be found here. From flamboyant cuttlefish, to ghost pipefish, to weedy scorpionfish, Milne Bay will serve up a banquet of macro photography delights. The fish-choked reefs adorned with rich corals are merely the frosting on the cake.

Two weeks aboard the superb Tiata

For all three 2002 trips, we will charter the superb live-aboard Tiata. The Tiata follows the prime diving seasonal changes in PNG, and splits her time between Kavieng and Milne Bay.  Our 2002 Milne Bay programs will be operated as Photo Pro Tous.

14 days and 14 nights of diving

Our three Milne Bay programs will include 14 days of diving and 15 nights on board.  For our 2002 14 day trips, the arrival night on board Tiata will be included free of charge. See our Papua New Guinea schedule for date and price information.

No extra charge!
