Doing a bit of rough math, I come up with something like four to five thousand dives between us which Birgitte and I have made in the Solomon Islands since our first visit there in 1988. How could it be, then, that our most recent 1999 season produced such a rich harvest of photographs? How could it be that we might possibly find anything new or exciting to shoot after so many dives there? Most people don't make that many dives in their entire lives, let alone in a single dive destination. Well, it's no mystery and not even mildly surprising to those who have been there. The Solomons possess such a diverse and abundant marine ecosystem and offer such a wide variety of undersea topography, coral reefs, caves, tunnels, muck dives, oceanic atolls, and blue water diving opportunities, it would take thousands more dives there before we would even begin to run out of photo opportunities. It's not just us who feel this way. We have more repeat guests to the Solomons than any other destination we offer. A great many of our clients have returned to the Solomons with us for four, five, six, even seven of our two-week tours. We've had numerous guests who have booked consecutive two-week trips, and even some that have enlisted for a two-weeker followed by our exclusive three-week tour. Five weeks in a row? Hey, it's just that kind of a place! |
